Without these skills, everyday life can become harder than it needs to be. A child may have fewer ways to tell us what they need, fewer opportunities to take part in their community, and a greater dependence on the people who love them most.
Every skill we teach—whether it is asking for help, getting dressed, using the bathroom, making a choice, following a routine, or staying safe—is a step toward a life with more comfort, dignity, and possibility.
That is why independence matters.Not because our children need to become someone else’s version of independent, but because they deserve every opportunity to shine in their own light.
