You are about to find out
or already heard the diagnosis,
how are you doing?
What just happened or what will happen?
There is so much anxiety, worry, anticipation, doubt, denial, and many other feelings you never thought you would have.
How did this happen? What will/did the tests reveal?
Will my star be okay? Will they have the life we dreamed for them? What does this all mean?
Please know that every parent with a child on the spectrum has been in your shoes. Everyone has a ton of questions and everyone is seeking something to make this ok.
What we have learned—and still remind ourselves every day is that this journey is not about our plans. It is about our little star.
A diagnosis, developmental delay, sensory needs, PICA, or any other part of your child’s story may change the road your family travels. But it does not take away your child’s ability to grow, connect, learn, surprise you, and build a life filled with love and meaning.
We cannot control every part of the journey. But we can control how we show up for it.
We can learn.
We can ask questions.
We can build a team.
We can teach the next skill.
We can celebrate the progress that other people may not always see.
And above all, we can love our children for exactly who they are while helping them become more comfortable, confident, safe, and independent in their own way.
The fact that you are here—reading, worrying, searching, and hoping already says so much about the life you want to help create for your child.
"So congratulations! You are here!
Where you belong, writing a more independent story ending
for your child.
Now, let's write those pages in between
that will help us get there!
